About
Old World Irredenta (OWI) is a digital label for ambient, noise and experimental sound art, music and audio-visual arts. OWI seeks to conjure up works that explore themes such as modernism, nostalgia and melancholy on a transregional basis, crossing borders of Europe and Asia alike.
Mavo
Mavo, named after a 1920s' Japanese modernist art collective, combines dark ambient, drone, noise and spoken word. The project explores contemporary modernism and urban anguish often with Eurasian scope, thus paying tribute to the namesake as well.
As a sound-art project with visual elements, concept albums tend to also include spoken word musings, samples and poetry. Mavo's influences stem from literary and historical characters across the Old World.
Est. 1919.
Dzungar
"There in the depths of the still Siberian winter I was suddenly caught up in the whirling storm of mad revolution raging all over Russia, sowing in this peaceful and rich land vengeance, hate, bloodshed and crimes that go unpunished by the law." (Ferdinand Ossendowski, Beast Men and Gods)
Dzungar is an electronica project experimenting with simple yet aggressive ritualistic rhythms, electronic, at times disorienting, melodies as well as harsh noise. Thematically, Dzungar travels through steppes and wastes of the Eurasian heartland, celebrating the collapse of its masters.
Takamaa
Takamaa's soundscapes are of harsh noise, bright spaces and tranquil, though distorted, melodies.
Leaking the lands beyonds.
